Learn how to flex your observational drawing skills by rendering fabric drapery in the context of still life and/or draped figure.
Throughout art history, Drapery has been an interesting subject matter for artists as it holds the power to portray personal and cultural contexts and is often a way for artists to capture movement and emotion. The differences in linen, lace, satin, and fur are understood not just through texture but a societal lens.
Through demos and exercises, you will be introduced to a range of drawing applications that include graphite and soft pastels that teach you how to effectively portray drapery in your work. The workshop will focus on anatomy and proportion of folds, reflections, shadows, movement, gesture and composition.
You will come away from this workshop with two large drapery compositions – one in colour and one using graphite.
