Linocuts are a great entry point into the world of relief printmaking. It involves carefully carving a design into a linoleum block and rolling ink over its surface, which can then be transferred onto paper to create a textured print using a printing press. This process enables artists and designers to produce multiple original prints in large edition quantities. Other relief print techniques include woodcut, letterpress, and rubber or metal stamping.

In this workshop, you will learn how to create linocut prints using a manual printing approach and a printing press in our Printmaking studios. Explore design elements while you carve your linoleum block and discover tools and techniques through demonstrations.

This workshop invites you to draw from childhood memories or collections of sentimental objects. You will bring with you to the studio one object or reference image you feel connected to as inspiration for your work. The workshop concludes with a guide on signing and editing prints for your portfolio.
