ENGLISH FOR ART AND DESIGN:
Expanded
EAD: Expanded is a program for undergraduate students who are continuing to develop university-level English speaking and writing skills in their first term. Students further learn and practice the language skills that are needed in art & design discipline-specific communication. The course is taught by an experienced art & design instructor, and an English Language Learning Consultant (Language Coach) will be available to provide extra support.
This program provides English language support over the fall term and will set you up for success at OCAD University!
- Duolingo test takers who achieve a minimum overall score of 110 but who score below 105 in the Production sub-score*
OR
- Students who have participated in EAD: Bridge to First Year but still do not meet OCAD U's English Language Proficiency requirements (scoring a final grade of 50%-59%).
*Anyone using another English language proficiency test type (e.g., IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT) who has a result that meets the overall/total score required for undergraduate admission but with one subsection that is below the minimum score requirement should reach out to the ead [at] ocadu.ca (EAD program). You may be eligible/required to take EAD: Expanded.
September 15 – November 30, 2025
EAD: Expanded includes the EADL-3L: Language of Art & Design class and built-in support from an ELL Consultant (Language Coach).
The weekly class (90 minutes) will be in person/on campus on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. starting on Wednesday, September 17.
You are expected to dedicate approximately 6 hours each week to EADL-3L activities including the weekly meetings and assignments.
This non-credit course focuses on English speaking and writing skills while providing support on skills needed in other first-year classes. EADL-3L is designed to support students in their first year by providing small group discussions as well as activities that further build the university-level art and design (disciplinary) language skills that students need to succeed.
The course is taught by an experienced art & design instructor with the support of a Language Coach for targeted language support.
The registration deadline will be August 8, 2025.
Students will be sent an email message by early August with information about this program, as well as the link to register (to confirm enrolment).
Please review the details before completing the online registration form in August.
