Create original experimental animations.

In this workshop, you will create short experimental animations in mixed media on vellum using a basic under-camera stop motion setup. Learn about the early history of animation and the evolution of experimental stop-motion techniques that contemporary artists use today.

The beginning of the workshop will focus on creating sketches, rough storyboards and plans for your work, reviewing some tips and tricks for creating expressive movement including touching on the 12 principles of animation. The latter half of the day will be spent animating a short scene of your own design!

The workshop will close with a screening and short critique of all the created work where you will be able to talk about your process, give feedback to your peers, and see your animation projected on a big screen. Leave this workshop with your own original animations, as well as an understanding of how to use the software on your own device to continue to expand your animation practice.
